Kevin Clarkson

Kevin Clarkson, originally from West Yorkshire and now based in Kent, brings a wealth of experience and a deep passion for the maritime world to his painting practice. A graduate with a BA from Liverpool Polytechnic and an MA from Leicester Polytechnic in 1980, Kevin enjoyed a 30-year career in design, primarily in London, before returning to his original passion for painting. Though his work spans various subject areas, Kevin’s true focus lies in capturing the raw elemental forces of land, sea, and sky.

A respected figure within the maritime art community, Kevin has been the Vice Chairman and Chairman of the National Maritime Museum Art Club (2012-2015), Chairman of the Old Royal Naval College Art Club (2015-2020), and is currently the Chairman of the Thames Maritime Artists. Kevin has exhibited widely, including at the Royal Society of Marine Artists Exhibition, where he was awarded the prestigious "Classic Boat Prize" in 2020. His work continues to be recognised for its vibrant portrayal of maritime life, with pieces retained for exhibition by the RSMA in 2023.

In 2024, Kevin’s work will be shown in the “British Art Prize” exhibition at the Oxo Galleries on the South Bank in London and at the “Afloat and Ashore” exhibition, organised by the Royal Society of Marine Artists and the Wapping Group.

Kevin’s distinctive paintings, often created in acrylics and oils, offer a dynamic and emotive response to the maritime environment, with his mastery of light, texture, and movement bringing to life the forces of nature in breathtaking ways.
