M.E. Ster-Molnar
Framed Size: 42 x 52 cm / 16.8 x 20.8 inches
The flower used in I FEEL SO ROYAL is the delphinium, which is quoted as being King Charles’ favourite flower. Whilst M.E. Ster-Molnar isn’t exactly a devout royalist, King Charles’ coronation reminded her of memories of an old family road trip that inspired this piece.
The road trip took place when M.E. was around 10 years old.: “We were on a budget. My mom wanted to stay at a cute bed and breakfast, but my dad insisted on staying on budget. So our family stayed at a less than stellar motor lodge called the "Knights Inn." It had velvet bedspreads and wasn't royal at all. My brother was a cheeky kid and laid down on the bed proclaiming "I FEEL SO ROYAL." That image has stuck with me for years. I still think of that story every time I'm on a road trip in the states.”
The inspiration behind this artwork was partly from King Charles' coronation but it also sparked a childhood memory that M.E. recalls fondly:
"The coronation reminded me of a family road trip we went on when I was around 10 or so. We were on a budget. I still think of that story every time I'm on a road trip in the states."
M.E. chose the delphinium flower specifically for this pieces as it is supposedly a favourite of King Charles.
