"As skulls typically represent mortality and butterflies new beginnings these works celebrate the full circle of life. There is harmony between the two. Beauty, strength, fragility and harmony married together."
Since 2017 Angela Morris-Winmill has dedicated a lot of her artistic practice to working with skulls. Angela has most often used water buffalo due to their striking and strong appearance. Using the limited palette of pop art as her inspiration she has created punchy artworks that you really can't take your eyes off of.
Angela's work with skulls has developed over the years and she has created sculptural artworks and worked with other animals, from foxes to ostriches all of which were sourced in the UK. Whilst often finished with various materials, from car paint, to trinkets and french lace, collected during her time as a wedding dress designer, the strength of the skull and its harsh contrast with the softer diamond dusted backgrounds has never been lost. In Angela's most recent skull works she wished to create a softer more playful feel. The addition of butterflies uplift the works contrasting with the skull's association with death.
Each of the four butterfly designs uses one of her original skull designs as their starting point. They are entirely one of a kind, original artworks and won't be sold as part of a limited edition. To enquire please email info@plusarte.co.uk.
